Acupuncture and integrative Health

Welcome to Salt + Light Acupuncture!

How can Acupuncture help?

Acupuncture is a traditional Chinese medicine practice that involves inserting thin needles into specific points on the body. It’s used for a variety of conditions, including (but not limited to!):

  1. Pain Relief: It’s commonly used to manage chronic pain conditions like lower back pain, osteoarthritis, and migraines.

  2. Stress and Anxiety: Some people find acupuncture helpful in reducing stress and anxiety levels.

  3. Digestive Issues: It may help with problems like irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) or nausea.

  4. Sleep Disorders: Acupuncture can improve sleep quality for some individuals.

  5. Allergies: Some use it to alleviate symptoms of seasonal allergies or other allergic conditions.

  6. Menstrual and Reproductive Health: It’s used to manage menstrual cramps, menopause symptoms, or fertility issues.

  7. Overall Well-being: It can also be part of a holistic approach to health, promoting general well-being and balance.

Accompanying Treatments

Cupping

Pain Relief: Many people use cupping to alleviate musculoskeletal pain, such as back pain or muscle tension.

Improved Circulation: The suction can increase blood flow and help with the removal of toxins.

Relaxation: Some find it a relaxing experience, similar to massage therapy.

Treatment of Respiratory Conditions: Cupping is sometimes used to help with conditions like asthma or bronchitis.

E-Stim

Electrical stimulation enhances the effects of acupuncture by providing continuous stimulation to the acupoints, which can intensify the therapeutic effects (quicker, more effective healing). The frequency and intensity of the electrical pulses can be adjusted based on the treatment goals and the patient’s response.

Moxibustion

Blood Flow: The heat from moxibustion stimulates blood flow to the treated areas. This enhanced circulation can promote healing by delivering more oxygen and nutrients to tissues.

Preventive Care: Some use moxibustion as a preventive measure to strengthen the body’s defenses against infections.

Stress Relief: Moxibustion can help reduce stress and promote a sense of relaxation and well-being.

Energy Boost: Some people find that it improves their energy levels and overall vitality.

Gua Sha

Gua Sha involves scraping the skin with a smooth-edged tool to improve circulation and promote healing. The term “gua sha” translates to “scraping sand” in Chinese, referring to the technique of scraping the skin to release stagnant blood and improve circulation.
